My studio is located in Brisbane, Australia. For the past 10 years I’ve been enjoying creating jewellery designs from an array of mundane materials. Tupperware and knitting needles have remained a firm favourite. My designs have been published numerous times, graced the shelves of many wonderful galleries and stores and been worn by those whose aren’t afraid of colour and attention. All of which I am very grateful for. For several years I’ve also been fortunate enough to work with many businesses as a coach and workshop facilitator.

Red?

When you buy jewellery is there a colour that you tend to go for?

I do think that red sells best, but I haven't really tallied the numbers so I'm not 100% sure. Anyway I was just wondering because I seem to be making a lot of red jewellery lately.

I guess it is rather obvious that I love colour - and lots of it. So my studio buddies seemed a bit surprised when I mentioned wanting to make a whole series of grey pieces. Maybe I was feeling a little glum that day. Although I wonder if I could actually bring myself to do that? I also wonder if I did how it would make me feel, because colour always cheers me up?

Just some questions and thoughts on colour today.....

I can't make a piece of jewellery with out something red or orange in it. I think it's a way to counteract all the black and grey colour pallets that make up Melbourne fashion in winter.
I guess there are enough grey plastic needles floating around for you to give it a try, but don't get too gloomy while you're at it!

I always make mini collections and tend to stitck with that colour palate, but if I'm doing something personal there's usually some red or pink in there!

I find that when it comes to my cards, the ones that look the most colorful/vibrant sell better. For example a sweet pastel one which looks great in person compared to a bright red one which will 'pop' in a photo. So maybe its not that more people like red.. just that red tends to photograph well (at least with my camera :)

That's because red is sexy and sophisticated. There's nothing 'half-way' about red.

Yes, go the red!! So many of my customers are in red coordinating jewellery, i love it. It works with everything, pink, black, blue, it's a great colour. If i do a product with red fabric, especially a spot, it's a best seller every time. My favourite shoes are gorgeous pretty red leather ballet flats. Love the new pins too, just beautiful. Love Posie
