Brisbane, Australia
My studio is located in Brisbane, Australia. For the past 10 years I’ve been enjoying creating jewellery designs from an array of mundane materials. Tupperware and knitting needles have remained a firm favourite. My designs have been published numerous times, graced the shelves of many wonderful galleries and stores and been worn by those whose aren’t afraid of colour and attention. All of which I am very grateful for. For several years I’ve also been fortunate enough to work with many businesses as a coach and workshop facilitator.

Who's That?

I think the days of remaining anonymous are over. In the past I have not been keen to show a lot of photos of myself (or have them taken!). It seemed pretty self indulgent and I just don't think I look great anyway. I'm certainly don't look like a supermodel, I'm not in my 20's, I'm 5'2" and I'm not a size XS anymore. But maybe none of that really matters anyway. Or maybe it does? But it is what it is and I am what I am.

Being recognisable is just getting harder to avoid. Next week I'm being filmed for a national (+ aired in Canada) children's television show (I'll be practicing my kids tv voice in the studio next week!) and posing for a photo to accompany a newspaper article too. It's just seeming pointless to fight it. Beyond that, I'm beginning to believe it may even be advantageous to just go with it. If it's going to happen I may as well have some semblance of control over my own self-portrayal.

Putting names to faces is important. One annoying thing I found while attending the JMGA conference was working out who was who. It would have saved a lot of time and been conductive to better conversations if I knew who more people were.

Maybe it isn't altogether necessary to know what people look like, but at times it sure can be helpful. So to that end here are some snaps of jewellery folk taken at the recent JMGA conference in Adelaide (I do need some help with names - Anna? Vicki? help me!).

Robyn Wells & Vicki Mason

Sabine Pagan & Nina Cueva

Mark Vaarwerk & Vernon Bowden

Bibi Locke & Mike Craft (filmmaker - but I'm going to let that slide just this once!)
