Brisbane, Australia
My studio is located in Brisbane, Australia. For the past 10 years I’ve been enjoying creating jewellery designs from an array of mundane materials. Tupperware and knitting needles have remained a firm favourite. My designs have been published numerous times, graced the shelves of many wonderful galleries and stores and been worn by those whose aren’t afraid of colour and attention. All of which I am very grateful for. For several years I’ve also been fortunate enough to work with many businesses as a coach and workshop facilitator.

What Would I do If I Couldn't Complain?

I'm going to admit that I like to be busy. I'm also going to admit that I like to complain about it.

Just when I'm at the point where I feel like I'm getting on top of things I add more to my workload. This has happened again this week with a decision to start an etsy shop (you can have a peek but it is no where near ready yet). I have given myself a two week deadline from today to learn all the ins and out of it, and believe me it is a whole other ballgame. Next I will need to get a decent amount of work in the shop, which I pretty much have to make all of. Plus I'm planning to run a treasure hunt type competition to launch it (you need to be a newsletter subscribers to enter this one). Oh I suspect I've slipped into whinge mode again!!

Luckily I will be getting some help with my new venture as my dear friend Miss Windbag has recently started up her own etsy shop. Also my super smart 11yr old has chipped in, and spent some time this morning showing her mum how to use paint/photoshop to create a decent looking banner.

If you have an etsy shop or any etsy experiences to share? I'd love to hear from you. Any advice/comments will gratefully be accepted.

Getting Sorted

Sometimes the only way to feel in control, when you don't at all, is to quite literally sort something out. I have been feeling a little down of late perhaps because I've been sick, away and just generally busy and thus haven't been able to fully catch up with things. Yesterday I was feeling that way so in order to start getting back on top of things I decided to tackle my messy studio and piles of neglected paperwork. I haven't gotten too far, but I have made a start and it did make me feel better.

As I started to sort my knitting needles into colours and sizes I soon realised (to my surprise) that (as was once suggested by Miss Windbag & Miss Wrecker)I may in fact have all of the knitting needles in South East Queensland after all!

The above pic is only the start of the needle sorting as there are many, many more needles to go.

A Note From My Mum

If it were still the days when a note from my Mum would do, I would get her to write something like this.

To Whom it May Concern,

Please excuse Liana for delays in blogging, the sending of her (already late!!) Newsletter, and the making of Knitwit Bangles for the next day or two. She has been feeling rather poorly and is in bed with some horrid stomach type bug and I expect it will be another day or two until she is totally ship shape and feeling 100% back on top of her duties.

Thank you,

Liana's Mum

Reblogged

I'm back from Sydney and am feeling not quite myself. Too much running around I expect. I'd say I'll be back on track tomorrow. For now I'll have to say something since it has been ages since I've blogged - the longest break yet! I never quite got around to it whilst away, so a Kylie Johnston (retail manager at Collect) said I was "debogged". Now reblogging.

Although I didn't get to tick off as many boxes as I would have liked, one thing that I was happy I did was visit Jane Pollard in her Enmore studio. Her studio is fabulous - I so want to move in. Jane was lovely also. We had a great chat and I think we both feel that we have a lot in common in terms of approach, style and issues we face. There was some vague mention of collaborating, so who knows what the future might bring?

Tick Tick

There are a number of issues I had wished to post about. I feel a need to rave on about the issue of design theft. Also I must say something about community and how the best assistance/advice you may ever get can simply be an email away.

But no time for any of that right now. I'm off to Sydney until the 17th and there is just too much to do before I leave. I will do a few Sydney posts whilst away. So watch out for some important topics and pretty pictures coming to you very soon.

Happy Easter until then.

I got a mention in the current issue of Virgin's inflight mag and since I'm flying with them I'll be making sure all family members will pick one up on the the way out (all groaning noises will be ignored)!
