About Liana

My photo
Brisbane, Australia
My studio is located in Brisbane, Australia. For the past 10 years I’ve been enjoying creating jewellery designs from an array of mundane materials. Tupperware and knitting needles have remained a firm favourite. My designs have been published numerous times, graced the shelves of many wonderful galleries and stores and been worn by those whose aren’t afraid of colour and attention. All of which I am very grateful for. For several years I’ve also been fortunate enough to work with many businesses as a coach and workshop facilitator.

Yesterday

I spent a relaxed Sunday afternoon making brooches from one old tape measure. It was the perfect antidote for too many nights out!

Pecha Kucha

I went along to Pecha Kucha last night and loved it. It is on every month at the Brisbane Powerhouse and will definitely be a regular date in my diary from now on.

Pecha Kucha really is a kind of show and tell for adults. A cross section of creatives show and discuss 20 slides for 20 seconds each. With the talk being over in 6 minutes and 40 seconds there is just no chance to get bored!

It feels important to me right now to engage with my community and become a part of it. Also I want to see what others in a range of related industries are doing. I find that really inspiring. I left last night feeling inspired.

These events are happening in major cities worldwide so check them out if you can. It is worth a look.

Maybe one day I'll put my hand up to present one too. Maybe.

Just Hair

Maybe I should have been wearing some of my jewellery because I have no good justification for posting this photo. I have a fringe and straight hair and I wanted it documented. That's it.

Oh and Florence made me do it too!

What You Want Or What You Need

The slideshow 9 Daring Ideas That Blend Fashion and Sustainability showcases my designs. It is great to be included, and it is very much appreciated.

The thing that struck me about this publicity is that the images used are all my own photos. I never became the photographer that I had for years so passionately wanted to be, but in a way I guess I have become a product photographer of sorts. Having my photos published is a pretty regular occurrence nowadays. Maybe I will push that a little further and play around with other kinds of imagery one day, but at the moment I'm pretty happy with that.

I guess I'm just realising that sometimes you can get what you want when you stop trying so hard. Maybe that's more about getting what you need (The Rolling Stones agree).

Break

My little break is over.

Not that it was really a break,
but I sent out my
Newsletter
this week and I feel pretty pleased about that.

Now back to the l-o-n-g to-do list.

Blanket

There is a profile on me in the current issue of Blanket - The Recycled issue. You are welcome to read it because I probably won't. I like getting publicity. I really like getting publicity. I don't mind cameras in my face or speaking about myself, but I do find it difficult to look at the end result. I avoid reading any interviews and articles about me. I dislike looking at published photos of me. I didn't watch myself on TV (all four times).

Maybe I should get over this? I guess I will in time.

N.E.E.T.

My Knitwit bangle is featured in the current issue of online fashion magazine N.E.E.T.

I have just started discovering the fabulous array of online mags. Having certain budgetary restraints I can't always indulge myself with a stack of lovely glossy publications.

Blanket is another great online read, focusing more on art/design. I'll be featured in the next issue, but that isn't why I like it! Truly!

Do you know of any others? Favourites? Suggestions?
