About Liana

My photo
Brisbane, Australia
My studio is located in Brisbane, Australia. For the past 10 years I’ve been enjoying creating jewellery designs from an array of mundane materials. Tupperware and knitting needles have remained a firm favourite. My designs have been published numerous times, graced the shelves of many wonderful galleries and stores and been worn by those whose aren’t afraid of colour and attention. All of which I am very grateful for. For several years I’ve also been fortunate enough to work with many businesses as a coach and workshop facilitator.

Supplying Promotion

It was a nice surprise to see my earrings image had been used on the new KickArts Shop flyer. It was also a good reminder that getting this sort of promotion from your suppliers is not that hard. They are often in need of good images for their websites, invitations, catalogues, advertising, etc, and if you give them some of those good images easily, there is a good chance that they will use them in some way or other.

I don't do this often enough but sending a disk of new images with your work ever now and again can really pay off, and if it doesn't what has it cost you anyway?

Jane Pollard On Sale

The lovely Jane Pollard sent me this invite to her studio sale, which is happening this Friday! I thought I would share it with you not only because Jane and her jewellery are fabulous, but her studio is gorgeous too, and this will be the last chance to see it. Also I recommend going to the bathroom, even if you don't have to, just because it is super cute and worth taking a peak at!

Facebook Revisited

I blogged about Facebook earlier in the year, and now I am doing it again. Looking back to what I wrote previously it seems that my opinion has changed. Before it seemed that I thought it was a good way to keep in contact with others (an opinion I still have), but now I am realising it has far more potential for making contact with others. I know I'm spending far too much time on it at the moment but that is because I'm just so enthused and eager to learn how I can make it work for me. I enjoy the marketing aspect of this business and Facebook (and probably My Space) appears to be such a fun way of doing just that!

Rubber

This should be a good show. I am rather looking forward to it as I am a big fan of rubber myself! Come along if you can.

ITM

My piece for Craft Victoria's In The Making professional member's exhibition. Launch: Thursday 7 August, 6-8pm

The exhibition opens A Month About Making - a month-long exploration of the making process. A Month About Making is a festival of public events, workshops, residencies, exhibitions and forums focusing on the practical and conceptual elements of making, inherent in craft and design. Throughout August, A Month About Making will explore current trends in craft and design practice, professional development opportunities for practitioners, contemporary craft and design philosophy and writing, and the place for 'making' within creative and cultural industries.

Aqua Vitae

Here are a couple of shots of the Umbrella Collective exhibition on display until August 30 at KickArts, Cairns.

Artist statement:
Drip Drop earrings and neckpieces came out of a time of deep change and renewal for me. Like water, I am transforming. Change is an inevitable part of life, but at this time it is highly concentrated. The neckpieces and earrings are made from old necklaces rescued from thrift stores. They are joined with vintage buttons, stainless steel, and sterling silver. The old and the new are combined, and through this something better, I hope, is made.

New

Some new pieces. They are a development of some old ideas. I'll have to take some snaps of them being worn because they look so much better on!
